Sustainability - not just a buzzword.
Sustainability is just as important for us as the design and quality of our beds. All materials used in our products are from Europe. We don't import any raw material, why should we? There is plenty of materials available locally. Solid pine wood is issued from local (Portugal) plantations, MDF comes from local factories as well! Until now, this renewable raw material has been considered almost inexhaustible.
Together with your support, we want to change this and contribute to the protection of our climate.
Energy at the production facility
Can you believe it, our factory in Portugal is equipped by 1,500 solar panels directly on the roof ! So we can supply 50% of our energy directly from our solar panels, and we keep investing in this. Maybe 100% energy from solar panels soon?

Transport - carbon impact minimised
In 2020, our transport partner became an accredited partner of the Smart Freight Centre (SFC), a global non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable freight. Customer emissions reporting is aligned with the SFC’s Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) framework, the only globally recognized methodology for harmonized calculation and reporting of the logistics GHG footprint across the multi-modal supply chain. Finally, to advance sustainability efforts within the transportation industry, they collaborated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Center for Transportation and Logistics (MIT-CTL) to develop new research that supports more accurate less than truckload (LTL) emission calculations !
The white paper for this original research can be found here.
Our service provider also collaborated with the EPA to test and further improve the methodology and receive SmartWay’s endorsement for this approach.
